Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, the first person to sail solo and nonstop around the world, is still more than willing to take on challenges – and competition – at age 74. In December, he’ll crew aboard one of two Clipper 68s in the annual Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.

Knox-Johnston achieved his feat of circumnavigation in the 1968-69 Golden Globe Race, logging 312 grueling days at sea on the 32-foot ketch Suhaili. He participated in the 2010 Sydney-to-Hobart race aboard Titania of Cowes, a Swan 68.

“It was an irresistible challenge to enter for a second time,” the legendary British yachtsman said recently. “I am looking forward to being a navigator on one of our 68s, which have completed four circumnavigations and will form a new training and events base in Sydney to expand (Clipper’s) presence in Australia.”
