Trawler conclaves increase in number

Voyaging powerboats, called trawlers by those in the know, are gain-ing popularity in the U.S. and Canada. As a result they are now the focus of several rendezvous around the country.

Trawler Fest, which is held three times every year in Florida, Maryland, and Washington, and sponsored by the marine equipment supplier West Marine, is a gathering of trawler enthusiasts, who congregate to swap ideas, browse for new products, attend seminars, and tell power-assisted sea stories.

The latest Trawler Fest was also an opportunity to earn international respect by winners of an A.G.A. Correa telltale compass, provided by Ocean Navigator. The trophy was awarded to Mac McCroskey of San Diego at the Poulsbo, Wash., Trawler Fest in June, for traveling the longest distance by boat to attend the festival.

The next show will be held from October 1 to 4 at Solomons, Md. Contact Trawler Fest organizer Georgs Kolesnikovs at 888-WMT-FEST (968-3378).
