May 2008, Largo, FL: Island Packet Yachts, internationally known for their award winning line of bluewater cruising sailboats, has announced their new Island Packet 460, scheduled to debut at this fall’s major boat shows in the US and UK.
The new two-cabin, aft cockpit design by Bob Johnson incorporates all the signature elements that have won the company their reputation as America’s Cruising Yacht Leader™. An evolution of the company’s successful aft cockpit 440, the 460 introduces a number of notable new features inside and out. An extended sheer line aft incorporates a traditional transom stern and a large swim platform. The large deck area aft of the cockpit is suitable for sun bathing or ondeck stowage, with two storage bins on either side providing space for LPG bottles and miscellaneous gear, and a central hatch opening to a large lazarette.
New interior features include a larger aft guest cabin with an exceptionally spacious double berth, and a more spacious navigation station.
Naval architect and company founder Bob Johnson says of his 27th new Island Packet model in 30 years, “Our first aft cockpit, two-stateroom, two-head design was the IP38, which made its debut in 1986. This introduced a brand new arrangement concept to this segment of the sailboat market at that time. More than two decades and four evolutionary designs later, we continue to make improvements with each new model.”
