Lin and Larry Pardey have wasted no time resting on their laurels following their successful rounding of Cape Horn last year. In the months following their doubling of the Cape, in which they experienced all the usual unpleasantness that most sailors find in those infamous waters, they produced an instructional video that outlines their methods of handling a small sailing vessel in heavy weather.
The video, like their book, is called Storm Tactics, and it includes detailed examples of how the Pardeys heave to in extreme conditions. The Pardeys narrate, using pad and paper to describe their adventures, and show actual footage of their vessel Taleisin being battered by graybeards off the Horn. The result is a sobering and thoughtful look at storm seamanship by two of the most accomplished seafarers alive today.
