On November 20 the Strand Theater in Rockland, Maine, was the hottest venue for a film premiere east of Los Angeles. Maine Built Boats, the association of Maine Boatbuilders promoting boats built down east, was debuting its film Maine Built Boats: Art & Soul. The 51-minute film is hosted by Gary Jobson, ESPN commentator, former America’s Cup Tactician, lecturer and writer. He has spent considerable time over the years in Maine and was involved in filming the documentary about Maine’s boatbuilding industry since January. The movie examines and celebrates Maine’s 400 year old boatbuilding industry, visiting builders all over Maine.

Included are interviews with more than 30 boatbuilders, including Hinckley Yachts, Morris Yachts, Lyman Morse Boatbuilding, Sabre Yachts, Hodgdon Yachts and Brooklin Boat Yard. In the film Jobson also talks with yacht designers Chuck Payne and Jim Taylor, as well as several owners of boats built in Maine. For more information go to www.mainebuiltboats.com.
