Cast off for Catalina

One of many similar destination movies that guide the would-be navigator from one safe harbor to the next, Cast off for Catalina effectively provides what it promises: a step-by-step description of how to make use of prevailing winds, access local resources and ultimately make landfall on Catalina, just 20-odd miles off Los Angeles/Long Beach.

While some of the mystery of discovery might be lost in such guides, the benefit is undeniable as 3D charts are analyzed for good anchorages and topography. The video (by Mark Ritts Productions Inc.) is an invaluable resource for anyone interested in exploring Catalina by boat – sail or power – or from the armchair.
