While it may seem like a drop in the bucket, the Dutch frigate De Ruyter, a member of the European Union naval force battling piracy off Somalia, recently picked up nine pirate suspects from boats 120 nautical miles off the Somali Coast. The suspects were then flown to the Seychelles for legal action. The problem of piracy seems intractable and picking up a few pirates here and there won't do much to fix it, yet a recent report from the International Maritime Bureau found that piracy against commercial vessels has reached a five year low with 297 ships attacked in 2012 compared to 439 in 2011.
