Mysterious Atlantic debris field

The Coast Guard is reporting the discovery of a male body in a debris field of boat parts, life jackets, flares and an oil sheen was found 22 miles east of the entrance to the St. Johns River in Florida. The name of the vessel that apparently broke up and the identity of the deceased is currently unknown. The Coast Guard is searching the area to determine if there are any additional people in the water. Engaged in the search are a boatcrew aboard a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium from Coast Guard Station Mayport in Atlantic Beach and a C-130 Hercules plane from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, Fla. The cutters Cormorant and Kingfisher have also reportedly joined the search.

The Coast Guard is asking anyone with information about the debris field to contact watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville at 904-564-7511.
