Russian sailors use cabin door as rudder

Six Russian sailors whose 50-foot sailboat had lost its rudder off New Zealand lashed a cabin door to their rudderpost to steer their vessel back to port. The crew, part of a Moscow adventure club in the process of circumnavigating Antarctica, sailed for nearly a month and covered more than 1,300 miles with their jury-rigged rudder, according to New Zealand press reports. They reached Wellington on April 1.
