Panama Canal Yacht Club demolished

The Panama Canal Yacht Club (PCYC) in Colón, Panama, has succumbed to the wrecking ball and will no longer be available to serve transiting yachtsmen. According to Tina McBride who has served as a yacht agent for boats transiting the Panama Canal since 1990, “The club has been demolished and now the only two berthing options for transiting yachtsmen in Bahia de Limon on the Atlantic side of the canal are Shelter Bay Marina at Fort Sherman on the Northwest side of the bay and anchorage area ‘Foxtrot’ to the east on the Colón side.”

McBride said the eventual fate of the site of the PCYC is anybody’s guess. The Shelter Bay Marina, a new facility with all the amenities, is still at least 30 minutes by road to the outskirts of Colón . In contrast, the PCYC was conveniently located not far from downtown Colón.

On the Pacific side of the canal, yachtsmen still have the option of using the Balboa Yacht Club and the Flamenco Yacht Club in Panama City.
