Pacific Cup aided by ‘webinar’

Prior to the start of last year’s Pacific Cup race, skippers tuned in to a web-based service for an unusual weather briefing, a live, web-based seminar on weather conditions and resources that could be called upon for the race. The site, www.weather

4sailors.com, is produced by veteran racer Bill Biewenga and partner Lou Roberts, and featured an instruction panel of several meteorologists and race authorities, including Lee Chesneau of the National Weather Service, Ken Campbell, Stan Honey and Biewenga. (See www.weather

4sailors.com/ijkl.htm for a glimpse of the resources used by the Pacific Cup crews.)

The site, which offers the service dubbed “webinar” (web-based seminar), will reportedly offer for-hire services to yacht clubs and rallies.
