Vendee Globe leader Jean-Pierre Dick has struck a submerged object and damaged one of his rudders, forcing him to proceed under reduced sail until conditions allow him to fix the problem.
From the International Herald Tribune:
Dick remains the leader but was averaging only 11.8 knots at the last check-in with race organizers, while Britain's Mike Golding, in second place on his yacht Ecover, was averaging 19.9 knots and just 51.5 miles behind.
