Book explains Line of Position

You can never get too many books on celestial navigation. Author Peter Ifland, on learning of our agreement to teach celestial navigation at sea on the schooner Virginia, suggested his book, Line of Position Navigation as a valuable resource for those nav students who would like to learn a bit more about the origins of celestial nav as we practice it today.

“I’d like to invite your attention to my book about Sumner’s creation of the Line of Position technique for position finding and St. Hilaire’s further refinement to the technique we use today. Several navigation schools are using the book as required reading for the students. It is easy to read and understand. It gives the student valuable insight into how LOP works while at the same time it appeals to the most mathematical advanced navigator.”
