Tug of war over Alcatraz Island ended

Evidently the back-and-forth over Alcatraz Island between the The National Park Service and the organizers of the Americas Cup in San Francisco is over. The Park Service, responsible for the island, the site of a former Federal prison, was reportedly concerned about the environmental impact the race could have on the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. According to an Associated Press story, the Park Service submitted a 22-page report on the enivironmental impact to the San Francisco Planning Commission. But now ABC news in San Francisco reports that  the Planning Commission has ruled that the race can go forward.
