For any offshore voyage, making sure you have a seaworthy vessel and a safe crew before departure is paramount. The Transpac Race to Hawaii, a 2,225-mile ocean passage, is no different. The Transpac race committee takes this need for seaworthiness and safety seriously with a rigorous protocol to ensure boats and crews are ready. The race has a full complement of 21 inspectors on the west coast, from San Diego in the south to Seattle in the north, that conduct inspections to ensure that competing boats are in compliance with US Sailing’s Safety Equipment Requirements (SER) for ocean races. With over 60 boats entered, the 2023 Transpac Race promises to be another classic race to Honolulu. We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone to San Pedro for the Person in Charge meeting and Aloha send-off party on the USS Iowa on June 24. You Can Never Be Too Prepared

The Transpacific Yacht Club takes preparation and safety seriously, and held a Pre-Race Seminar on November 9th to provide attendees with some valuable insights from a panel of experts on how to be ready for this race of a lifetime. There is a video available now on YouTube that can help those unable to attend to tune in on the information presented, as well as act as a reference resource for those that did attend to remind them of the material.

Posted March 15, 2022 As the competitors in the 2022 Puerto Vallarta Race continue south in what is being reported as “great sailing conditions,” it is worth taking a moment to look at how this game has played out in the past. To start, Rio100 owns the elapsed time record set in 2016 at 3 ds, 5 hrs, 42 min, 43 sec. Both Rio100 and Pyewacket 70 have been rolling through the fleet like they’re in a car chase. The trackers are currently projecting both of them to finish ahead of the record, with Pyewacket 70 edging out Rio100 by about an hour, and knocking a little more than 4 hours…

Ocean Navigator is now an official sponsor of the 2022 Vallarta Race, San Diego Yacht Club's long-standing traditional event sailing to the Mexican mainland on a 1,000 nm course from San Diego to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. This July is the 51st running of the Transpac Race, the signature west coast offshore race, 2,225 miles from Los Angeles to Honolulu. And for this running of the race, Ocean Navigator is an official race sponsor. The seamanship, navigation, route planning and watchstanding efforts exhibited by the race crews are the same skills that voyaging sailors undertake every day in their passages. The Fastnet Race, from Cowes, England, then out the English Channel to Fastnet Rock off Ireland and finally back east to end off Cherbourg, France, is one of the premier ocean races. The race course alone makes the Fastnet a notable event, but large in the history of the race is the infamous 1979 running. That race was hit by a Force 10 gale and ultimately 19 racers were lost.
