SSCA and NWSA offer two-day weather workshops

The Seven Seas Cruising Association, teamed with West Marine, is offering a two-day weather workshop in Oakland, Calif., on April 19 and 20. The National Women’s Sailing Association presents the same course – expressly for women sailors – April 28 to 30 in Baltimore, Md.

The courses, taught by long-time Ocean Navigator instructor Lee Chesneau, a senior marine forecaster for NOAA’s Marine Prediction Center, offer the following curriculum: cause and effect of marine weather; surface weather patterns; ocean wave formation, propagation and decay; OPC wind and weather charts; tropical cyclone basics and avoidance; OPC surface charts and 500-mb charts.

Cost for the SSCA course is $250 for members and $300 for nonmembers; cost for the NWSA course is $225.
