SSB weather guy honored by SSCA

An award for outstanding service was presented to the ocean weather forecaster Herb Hilgenberg recently by the Seven Seas Cruising Association.

The South Bound II Blue Water Sailing Service Award was presented to Hilgenberg at the Association’s annual meeting in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., in November. He was honored for his broadcasts of free weather analyses and personalized routing advice that he has dispensed from his home, first from Bermuda and now from Burlington, Ontario, since 1987.

“I was delighted to receive the award. This community is full of such good people, and it’s an honor to be recognized like this,” said Hilgenberg, who is entirely self-taught in meteorology. The award is named after his call sign, South Bound II.

Tune in to Herb year-round at 2000 GMT at 12,359 kHz and 8,294 kHz.
