Spain’s ‘Volvo’ entry sets new 24-hour record

The World Sailing Speed Record Council announced a new record for the fastest 24-hour monohull. Movistar, the only Spanish entry in the pending Volvo Ocean Race, achieved a run of 530.19 miles on April 18 in the Southern Ocean. The Farr-designed VO 70, skippered by Dutchman Bouwe Bekking, averaged just over 22 knots for a 24-hour run just four days out on a training leg from Wellington, New Zealand, to Rio de Janeiro.
