Sailing "guru" at Chicago Strictly Sail

The Chicago Strictly Sail website pulls no punches with the billing for these seminars. It acknowledges what we all already knew: author and sailor Nigel Calder is "The Guru of Sailing Systems."

There isn't much about a voyaging sailboat that Nigel doesn't know in encyclopedic detail. Sure, you've met a few other folks who have the knowledge, but, unlike mot of them, Nigel knows how to talk and write about sailing systems in a clear, engaging way. It's impossible to run across him at a boat show or some other sailing event and not learn something — even if it's just the picaresque details of his and wife Terrie's latest foray into home renovation or boat modification!

For serious Nigel fans, the Chicago Strictly Sail at McCormick Place offers a chance to immerse yourself in nine hours of pure Calder – three sessions, each lasting three hours. The first, on Friday, January 16 will cover anchoring and docking skills, followed by DC system design, installation, optimization and troubleshooting on Saturday the 17th and then do-it-yourself diesel engine maintenance on Saturday evening. The full schedule and all the details are on the Strictly Sail website.

This is a great opportunity to learn from the Guru himself.
