Privateer replica to compete in Transpac

The tall ship Lynx, a replica of a 19th century American privateer, will enter the 2,225 mile Transpac race between Los Angeles and Honolulu. Lynx will sail in honor of Lurline, a tall ship that sailed in the inaugural Transpac race in 1906.
From TheLog.com:

The crew of the 122-foot square-topsail schooner hopes to bring an exciting new dimension to racing across the Pacific — and is lobbying for Transpac to add a tall ship class to its next race, in 2011.

When representatives of Lynx presented the idea of participating in the 2009 event at a Transpacific Yacht Club board meeting, the club was more than receptive. Timing could not have been better, as the directors of the board had already been looking to bring more elements of traditional sailing back to the offshore race.
