Finding a place to anchor or getting a spot on the fuel dock can be problematical for the ocean voyager. What if you made the rules, however, and stipulated that your boat would always get first choice of the best locations? Now you can do that in the port of Brisbane, Australia. In fact, you can become the port director if you like. There is one small hitch, however. In order to get complete control, you have to buy the port for a suggested 15 billion dollars (Australian – or about $12 billion U.S.). It turns out the Queensland, Australia, state government is selling the port of Brisbane as part of an effort to raise money to cover Queensland’s deficit.
It’s a fairly large sum, but what voyager wouldn’t want to sail into his or her own port and call all the shots?
