A new lecture by Ocean Navigator contributor Steve D'Antonio is being offered in January at the Atlantic Sail Expo in Atlantic City. Preparing Onboard Systems for Offshore Cruising will cover basic checklists, as well as a review of necessary systems and equipment and what is required to get them ready for rough treatment from the high seas. "Preparing your vessel and her systems for an extended offshore passage is not as difficult as you may think," D'Antonio said. "But sailors should be aware of certain considerations. The categories to be discussed include: electrical system and batteries; engine and genset mechanical and electrical components; below the waterline plumbing; seacocks and through-hull fittings; running gear; pumps; fuel system; steering and spare parts." The seminar will be from 0900 to noon on Jan. 24. Contact Dave Jackson, director of the Ocean Navigator School of Seamanship, for details.
