Groupe Beneteau has introduced the Lagoon 38, a cruising catamaran with new hull shapes that offer a voluminous interior and 360-degree views. The salon has space for 10 people around a large table.
A full galley has ample countertop space for food preparation plus a larger refrigerator than typically experienced on a European boat. Below decks, the owner’s cabin has a forward berth with an aft head and large shower stall.
The cockpit and deck areas have been designed for easy passage for all members of the family. Extended transoms at the trailing edge of each sponson make it easy to board with a child or lots of sundries in your arms. Some would describe these transom extensions as swim platforms where you can sit and dangle your feet in the water. The port side also has a boarding ladder.
A sliding glass door seamlessly links the cockpit to the salon by retracting to create one large area on the same level.
Looking at the numbers, the Lagoon 38 measures 37 feet 4 inches with a 21-foot, 10-inch beam. Air draft is 60 feet, 8 inches and under the water, she draws 4 feet, 42 inches. Fuel capacity is 10 gallons and the boat carries 79 gallons. Power is provided by twin 29-hp engines.
Lagoon builds the 38 with vacuum infusion in the deck to help reduce weight. The boat’s laminate uses a hemp-based fiberglass on non-structural pieces and the manufacturer uses bio-sourced resins. Wood used in the boat comes from FSC-certified forests and upholstery is made from recycled materials. Other sustainable assets included a water-purification system and solar panels.
The world premier for the Lagoon 38 will take place in Bordeaux, France, on March 12.
