Lightning protection tip

A voyaging tip from voyager and freelance writer Greg Rudzinski:

Electronics are susceptible to circuit board damage if lightning strikes directly or close by so protect important electronics (EPIRB, sat phone, GPS, VHF, quartz watch, laptop, digital camera, etc.) by placing them in a microwave oven until the lightning storm passes. The microwave oven doubles as a Faraday Cage protecting electronics from the adverse effects of lightning electromagnetic radiation. It is still prudent to carry a mechanical chronometer, sextant, and magnetic compass as additional backup.
