Leaving Antigua on Virago

After last minute work on heat exchanger and fine tuning for their weather window, Ocean Navigator’s own Charlie Humphries and six others are ready to head across the Atlantic on the 100-foot Swan, Virago. Here is Charlie’s report:

Virago will depart Antigua at 0900 on 5/6. Trade winds have shifted south of east which will free us for northing out of trades to head almost on rhumb line to Azores (2164 miles). Hoping to arrive in Horta in about nine days at target of 240 miles per day. From there we sail to Gibraltar (Gib) and then on to Palma, Majorco. Great crew of seven including four Yanks, a Canadian and two Brits.  Had a swim and cleaned prop and prop shaft this AM. I will be a watch captain on a rotating schedule of three hours on and six hours off, which sounds mighty restful.
