Harken Develops Spinnaker Retrieval Wheel for Last-Second String Drops

Pewaukee, WI – Harken has designed a new carbon fiber spinnaker retrieval wheel to fill an underserved need in the Grand-Prix market. The design is for ultra-fast "string drops" where a wheel connected to the pedestal system pulls the spinnaker into the hull instead of having a team stuff it down the hatch. The "string drop" lets teams get a few extra seconds of speed from the spinnaker, sometimes letting them delay takedown until mid-rounding.

"Instead of one-off solutions by builders, this makes it easier for teams to find a wheel with good quality control, a predictable cost, and a reliable lead time," says Mark Wiss, Director of New
Business Development."

Grinders can engage the wheel from a Harken pedestal setup with a foot button. Optional carbon T-box brackets and cantilevered gearbox brackets hold the gearbox in position. Configuration can be customized to the boat. Contact your Harken representative
