Friends of missing sailor appeal for aid

A concerned friend of a solo circumnavigator whose yacht disappeared in the Gulf of Aden in September has been reaching out to the maritime community around the world in hopes of finding him.

Krzysztof Zablocki, a Polish national, was last known to be underway for Djibouti aboard his vessel Sadyba some time shortly after making contact with another Polish yacht on Sept. 19, 1999. Zablocki, who never arrived in Djibouti, was expecting to continue through the Red Sea to Suez.

Kazimierz Kantorek, the missing sailor’s friend, is requesting that radio operators in contact with short-wave transmitters in the Red Sea area, African coast nations, or Saudi Arabia to assist in the search. Contact the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs: (011) 48-22-8320385 or (011) 48-60-1072170.

The vessel is a white-hulled, 36-foot Bermudan yawl homeported in Gdansk with the following markings printed on the mainsail: Pol 1180.
