French hydrofoil trimaran L’Hydroptere reached an instantaneous speed of 61 knots on Sunday before capsizing, causing minor injury to some crewmembers. Because the World Sailing Speed Record Council requires world record speeds be measured over a distance of 500 meters, this speed does not set a new record, but the crew will make another attempt after completing repairs. Currently, the record is 50.57 knots, set by kiteboarder Alexander Caizergues.
