Flare parachutes sold as sea anchors

Officials at Para-Tech, a company that manufactures sea anchors, were surprised to learn recently that army-surplus flare parachutes were being marketed as sea anchors under the Para-Tech name.

"The Para-Tech name was used to sell what we have been informed are surplus flare parachutes used for dropping flares during the Vietnam War," said Don Whilldin, president of the Colorado-based company. "They are not Para-Tech sea anchors. Para-Tech sea anchors come in a yellow deployment bag with a Para-Tech label attached to the side of the bag, as well as the sea anchor itself with the serial number clearly marked on both labels.

"If anyone has any questions about any sea anchor they have purchased recently, we can be reached at 800-594-0011."
