First waterproof digital camera

Now that digital camera technology has proven its viability, it is quickly becoming more versatile for the demanding marine environment. This waterproof camera offered by Fujinon, for example, should appeal to sailors who favor the ability to email photo files - for web site use or to family and friends - but want a camera that can take a dunking.

The Fujinon DS-260HD has both high and low resolution settings, a combination wide-angle and zoom lens and a 1.8-inch LCD color monitor.

The camera is fitted with rubber gaskets, but it is not intended for underwater use, according to Bob Gardner, spokesman for the company, since it is not fitted with a lens to eliminate distortion - nor is an underwater lens available.
