Fire in Antigua

Flooding is clearly the biggest fear of any voyager. Fire, however, must rank a close second. This image of the yacht Ketura as a smoking ruin after an extensive fire comes from Martin Burzynski owner of Te Mana, a 65-foot Kanter.

Burzynski reports that Ketura caught fire, presumably due to a lightning strike, at the dock at the Cat Club marina in Antigua. Cabot Lyman’s Chewink was nearby but suffered no damage.

“The fire started early about 8 am.” Said Burzynski. “The Captain was hospitalized with 2nd degree burns over 40% of his body. No other boats involved. Ketura was towed 50 yard away from the dock, Unfortunately it was up wind s the gray acrid smoke covered most of the Marina well after 12pm when I took the photos.  Thats all I know for now.”
