Fire claims tug builder, spares yacht builder

Washburn and Doughty, a tugboat and fishing boat builder based in East Boothbay, Maine, suffered a disastrous fire this morning that destroyed the facilities of the well-respected commercial builder. Just next door on the waterfront to Washburn and Doughty is the custom yacht builder Hodgon Yachts, builders of such impressive custom sailboats as the 154-foot Scheherazade and the 124-foot Antonisa. Early reports say that all the shipbuilders from Washburn and Doughty escaped without injury and that Hodgon Yachts suffered no fire damage. Image courtesy Matt Bogart.
