Large multihull ocean racing is rarified stuff. Five MOD70 trimarans will leave New York on July 7 for the Krys Ocean race. They are expected to arrive in Brest, France by July 14. Blasting across the Atlantic from New York to Brest on a 70-footer with two hulls in the air is a little bit different than getting there on a voyaging monohull laden down with supplies, gear and all your worldly possessions. Comparing a liveaboard cruiser with a MOD70 tri is a bit like the comparison between boat and an airplane, one is part of the environment while the other is just a brief visitor! Foncia, shown here, is skippered by Michel Desjoyeaux.
