Derecktor Shipyards in Bridgeport, Conn., announced in July that they would soon begin construction on a yacht that, at 280 feet in length, will be the largest built in the U.S. in more than 75 years. At 2,800 tons, it may be the largest yacht – in terms of displacement – ever built in the U.S., according to the shipyard. (Derecktor is completing construction on a 145-foot catamaran, the largest such vessel in the world.)
The 280-foot motoryacht, designed by the Dutch firm Azure Naval Architects, will feature a steel hull and an aluminum superstructure and have six decks. Not surprisingly, the vessel will have accommodations for twice the number of crew than it will have for its very comfortable passengers (24 crew; 12 passengers).
