Novamar, a Seattle-based marine insurance company, is now offering insurance for U.S. boaters traveling to Cuba. Visits to Cuba have become highly desirable since the U.S normalized its relations with the country and Novamar is just one insurance company looking to help boaters reduce the risk involved in their voyage.
There are some restrictions in Novamar’s policy that may not make it right for all sailors. The company says that most vessels valued at $50,000 or greater are eligible for coverage, meaning some voyagers with smaller boats may have to look elsewhere for insurance. The company insures a stay of 14 days unless the boat is damaged and unable to return to U.S. waters in that timeframe, in which case coverage will be extended.
