Circumnavigation for wind- and solar-powered cat

Circumnav

Jean-Marc Simiand, a 53-year-old French engineer and sailor is planning an autonomous catamaran circumnavigation powered by 100 percent renewable energy. His goal is to prove that it is possible for boating to abandon fossil fuels for cleaner renewable energy systems.

Simiand plans on a three-year voyage that will rely only on wind and solar power. His voyage plan will follow traditional routes, including a Panama Canal passage during which he will rely on lithium batteries to power the yacht’s electric propulsion system. He is currently looking for sponsors and donors to the project and hopes to depart by September 2016.
