Captain writes his own apps

What do you do when you’re an experienced delivery skipper and you want to get the Local Notice to Mariners, the latest Light List and the Discrepancy List (an index of buoys off station, etc.) on an Android phone? You write some apps to go online, get the digital files and download them. Easy, right?

Oregon-based delivery skipper Mike Maurice, who has been doing deliveries for more than 40 years did just that. He sat down and wrote the apps for Android OS (no iOS yet).

“I’ve been building Android apps for five or six years,” Maurice said. “I started building them for my own use. Then I realized other people could use them too.”

You can get his free apps at his website or on the Google Play website.
