The History Channel is looking for volunteers to assist in the re-enactment of Capt. Cook’s voyage in the South China Sea. The Australian replica Endeavour will sail for six weeks later this year from Australia north to the South China Sea, a re-creation of a portion of Cook’s first voyage (1768 to 1771).
The intention of the original journey was to observe a lunar eclipse on the far side of the globe and to chart a new continent. Participants will be treated to all the vessel’s comforts, including cramped quarters, less-than-standing-headroom cabins, and a traditional "head" such as Cook’s swashbuckling crew enjoyed – a hole in the foredeck. Each crewmember will serve in the roles assigned and be asked by the History Channel/BBC joint venture to maintain the same schedule and eat the same food as the original crew.
