An acrimonious dispute over the rules for the next America’s Cup contest in 2010 is set to continue as BMW/Oracle rejects a set of rules proposed by Cup defender Alinghi.
From The New York Times:
Alinghi and its billionaire owner and crew member Ernesto Bertarelli won the Cup, the most prestigious prize in sailing, in 2003 and then defended it last year in Valencia, Spain. Alinghi then named the Spanish club as its lead challenger and released a controversial set of rules for the next Cup, planned for 2009, that were widely viewed within the Cup community as too favorable to Alinghi. In response, BMW Oracle and its billionaire owner and crew member Larry Ellison initiated legal proceedings to make it the challenger of record.
