Bernard Stamm wins Leg 1 of Around Alone

Bobst Group-Armor Lux and skipper Bernard Stamm were first to cross the finish line off Torbay Harbour on Sept. 26, 2002, at 14:33:38 UTC. Stamm set a new trans-Atlantic solo record when he passed Lizard Point off the southwest Coast of England. Stamm lost power two days before and was forced to hand-steer the finish of the leg. In second place is Thierry Dubois on Solidaires. He crossed the line at 1:17:28 on the 27th. Third place went to Garnier, then Pindar, Tiscali and Hexagon.

In Class 2, Brad Van Liew and Tommy Hilfiger Freedom America finished at 8:42:49 UTC on Sept. 30. Spirit of Canada is in second place so far.
