Baron Services Introduces Mobile Link to the Marine Industry

Device allows XM Weather data to be viewed on mobile devices, including tablets and smart phones

Huntsville, AL• Baron Services, Inc., a leading weather services company, announced that the Baron Mobile Link is now available to the marine industry.

The Baron Mobile Link will enable users to view XM WX Satellite Weather data on the iPhone and iPad, as well as devices running the Android OS.

The Mobile link itself serves to connect an XM WX data receiver with mobile devices.

The Baron Mobile Link will work in conjunction with soon-to-be available apps, providing mariners with greater flexibility and convenience.

An XM WX subscription, antenna and receiver are required, in addition to the Mobile Link itself and a mobile app, in order to view XM WX data on mobile devices. The process for receiving the information will remain similar to current usage with other display devices: the XM satellites transmit data to the XM antenna and a WxWorx portable receiver, which will be connected to the Mobile Link via USB. From there, the Mobile Link allows for one wireless connection to your choice of mobile device. A standard DC outlet is needed to power the Mobile Link device. The Mobile Link also supplies power to the WxWorx portable receiver via the USB connection.

The Mobile Link is compatible with all three generations of WxWorx weather data receivers, including the recently unveiled third generation WxWorx receiver. The Mobile Link will require a USB connection specific to the receiver being used. A cable for this connection is not included and can be purchased separately.

“Smart phones and tablets have revolutionized the way people receive information,” stated Bob Baron, -more- President and CEO, Baron Services, Inc.

“The Mobile Link allows us to give our customers the information they want, in the way they want to receive it, on the device they choose.”

The Mobile Link currently supports the following XM WX data products:

• High-Resolution NEXRAD Radar (US, Puerto Rico)
• High-Resolution Radar (Canada)
• Radar Coverage (US and Canada)
• Satellite Mosaic
• Surface Observation Reports (METARS)

Future updates will allow the Mobile Link device to display an entire host of marine weather data products, including:
