AroundAlonereturns to Newport

The AroundAlone race, formerly the BOC Challenge and formerly based in Charleston, S.C., has moved back to Newport, R.I., where it was originally based. Recently purchased by Clipper Ventures the principal of which is the world's first non-stop circumnavigator, the living legend Sir Robin Knox-Johnson the race will next be held in September 2002. The 28,000-nm race will include stops in Cape Town, South Africa; New Zealand; and San Salvador, Brazil. For anyone considering entering in either the 50- or 60-foot Open classes a chance to go without sleep for eight or nine months and enjoy a diet of freeze-dried food the deadline is March 2002.
