Around the world in 58 days

Steve Fossett, the American gentleman adventurer who has made headlines for his acts of derring-do at sea and in the air, has broken the round-the-world sailing record for a second time. Sailing his 125-foot catamaran Cheyenne — the same boat, then called PlayStation, aboard which he set previous speed records — Fossett accomplished the 25,000-mile east-about passage from France in 58 days, 9 hours and 32 seconds.

After breaking the record, Fossett announced that he would retire from ocean speed record attempts to focus on chasing aviation records, ending an impressive 11-year career in the sport. He has set records for trans-Atlantic crossings (4 days and 17 hours) and several 24-hour speed records. Cheyenne is currently for sale.
